Georgia Health Insurance PeachCare for Kids program started covering children in 1999, providing comprehensive health care to children from birth through the age of 18 who do not qualify for Medicaid and who live in households with incomes that are at or below 235% of the federal poverty level. This means a family of three can earn $43,029 a year and a family of four can earn $51,818 a year.

You might qualify for Georgia Health Insurance Medicare, even if you are under the age 65. Qualifying factors include if you have a disability that is expected to last at least a year or is expected to be fatal. In order to obtain Medicare because you are disabled, you need to apply for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and you must receive SSDI for 24 months prior to enrolling in Medicare. Until that time, you will have to find another source of health insurance, like COBRA.

If you have recently lost your job, had health insurance through that job, and your former employer had more than 20 employees then you have the right to you have the right to stay in the Georgia Health Insurance plan you had while working at that job. Family members who were covered as your dependents can also choose to continue coverage. However, you must pay the total cost of the premium yourself, which can be very expensive.

In order to take up this extension of your Georgia Health Insurance using the COBRA program you must act quickly. Your former employer will send you a letter about your right to choose to take up the COBRA plan. You will then have 60 days from the time you lose your job to enrol in COBRA. COBRA usually guarantees 18 months of coverage, but under special circumstances you can get 29 or 36 months of coverage.

In addition, under Georgia law, former workers aged 60 or over and their dependents may be eligible to continue with their Georgia Health Insurance coverage until they are eligible for other Georgia Health Insurance group coverage or Medicare.

As a general rule, Georgia Health Insurance providers are allowed to reject your application for coverage based on the status of your health. There are several exceptions to this rule: If you have had at least 6 months of coverage under a group plan, you may be eligible to buy a conversion policy. This will convert your group plan into an individual policy.

If you had at least 18 months of continuous creditable Georgia Health Insurance coverage, the last day of which was under a group plan and you have exhausted all COBRA continuation coverage which was available to you, you may qualify as a HIPAA-eligible individual. People who are HIPAA-eligible are guaranteed the right to buy an individual health policy.

If you are blind or have another disability; and your income is low; or you spend a high proportion of your income on health care, you may qualify for Georgia Health Insurance Medicaid. People who have a disability generally qualify for Medicaid because they are receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), but you may be eligible to get Medicaid while you are waiting to find out if you are eligible for SSI. Even if you do not qualify for SSI, you may still be able to get health insurance through Medicaid.
